As we move closer to the end of the semester, all of the students in MIS 320 and MIS 340 are getting excited for their Capstone project next semester. Students have also been interviewing and receiving internships for this summer 2015. Second semester juniors are taking MIS 320, “Application and Information Architecture”, and MIS 340, “Data Communications and Networking in a Global Environment”. This semester students learned new technical skills that will be used in both the Capstone project and the real world.
In MIS 320, “Application and Information Architecture”, students learned Entity Framework. Entity Framework allows students to create databases within Visual Studio. In the last few weeks, the students learned the basics of HTML and CSS and began testing their skills using MVC. MVC uses Entity Framework to create a website that gives the user access to a database. This class is fast paced but Mr. Coburn does a great job ensuring that the students understand the information.
In MIS 340, “Data Communications and Networking in a Global Environment”, our first test covered the basics of the computer and how it operates. The students just took their second test last week which covered LANs, Application layer, Transport layer, and routing and addressing in the Network layer. The class is very informative on how computers operate and how computers communicate within a network. Dr. Hogan breaks down the information and does an excellent job explaining the details.
