Our Capstone team has the privilege to work with The Home Depot’s Merchandising Transformation department. The Home Depot is the largest home improvement retailer in the United States. As one of the biggest retailers, managing inventory whether is it active or inactive is very important. This semester we are working to develop an inventory monitoring and management tool for THD’s Merchandising Finance department. This tool will help Merchandising Finance managers monitor inactive inventory at the market level, as well as automatically generate worksheets required to change a SKU status to clearance.
Our team’s solution will reduce the time it takes to view inactive inventory through selection filters, standardizing the process. Our solution will also enable finance managers to see the highest opportunity SKUs to move to clearance by department, class, and subclass. Because the current process is manual, it can take several days to complete. Our solution will reduce this time to less than a day.
During our discovery phase, the team traveled to The Home Depot’s Store Support Center in Atlanta, Georgia to meet our clients in person and gather requirements for our project. Now, our team is entering the build phase of the project. Our THD-issued laptops give the team direct access to THD’s development environment and helps us maintain open communication with our stakeholders.. We just finished creating the HTML pages we’ll need, and we’re now working to integrate them with THD’s existing CSS. After that, we’ll start coding!
