Enthusiasm is contagious; unfortunately, so is complaining. Would you rather be around an enthusiastic person or a complainer? Obviously, someone who is enthusiastic will make your workplace more pleasant.
If you do have a legitimate problem or complaint, you should try to propose a solution when you bring it to the attention of someone who can do something about it. This will help you project an image of being
a problem-solver instead of a complainer, and also show that you are invested in the success of your business or workplace.
Avoid constant complainer mode by searching for the positive aspects of any given situation. Chronic complainers gain an undesirable reputation by darkening the atmosphere and undermining morale.
Identify what frustrates you and then sit down and think about ways you can make improvements. Is there something you can do on your own to resolve the situation? If it is within your authority and responsibility, do it. Research similar problems and find out how they were handled. Would the resolution used on a similar problem be a viable option for handling your complaint?
Can you brainstorm solutions with your coworkers? Do you think it will help to speak with a supervisor about your complaint? If, after presenting the situation to the supervisor, you learn nothing can be
done to resolve it, you must find a way to let it go and put it out of your mind. Instead, concentrate on the positive aspects of your job, or at least work on improving the negative things that are within your ability to change.
An economic downturn and fear of layoffs and company closings can place undue stress on employees who are concerned about keeping their jobs. Negative comments and complaints only heighten the anxiety
and worsen the situation. Therefore, it is critically important to maintain a positive, upbeat attitude.
