Put in the required number of hours you have agreed to work in exchange for a paycheck, and don’t try to shortchange your supervisor and company. In fact, if you hope to excel and win a promotion or raise, put in more hours than required. Show up a few minutes early and use the time to plan your day instead of having a second cup of coffee and chatting with a coworker. Be willing to stay as long as it takes to get an important task finished. Spend your time working strictly on business tasks during your required work hours.
Do not take time off unnecessarily. Schedule doctor, dentist, and hair appointments; car and home repair jobs; banking, etc., on your own time when at all possible. It is not your employer’s responsibility to
give you time off to tend to personal business. Don’t abuse sick days by calling off work when you are not sick. Refrain from taking extended breaks and lunches.
If you work from home or another remote location, be sure to work the number of hours that you say you are working. If you are on the company time clock, give the time to the company. Keep a log of the
number of hours worked, and hold yourself personally accountable for time owed.
