The Purchasing Association of Central Alabama (PACA) is an organization that consists of local government entities that pool their collective purchasing power to result in buying items at discounted prices and preserving tax dollars. PACA has a web portal that allows members to create a bid that fills the Request for Proposal (RFP). The UA-MIS PACA Team has been given the opportunity to provide a solution that will fulfill PACA’s need of an enhanced, robust web portal.
The team recently went on-site for a client meeting to meet with the members of PACA and Jefferson County to gather requirements and get an idea of their expectations. The meeting was a tremendous success and the members from PACA and Jefferson County showed a huge interest in the project. We met with PACA officials, the CFO, CIO, and Deputy CIO of Jefferson County. These PACA and Jefferson County officials along with the UA-MIS Capstone team got off to a great start on finding out what needed to be done to recreate and make the new PACA website easily accessible and increase functionality for PACA members and potential vendors.
During the meeting, PACA and Jefferson County discussed what they would like to see developed for the new website. The new solution will integrate additional features including enhancing current and future members’ experiences, allowing multiple stakeholders to access centralized documents, and upgrading the current web portal’s technical infrastructure. The UA-MIS PACA Team is responsible for analyzing, designing, building, and testing a web portal system for PACA. The web portal will increase system integration, system maintainability, security and a better ability to manage documents. The UA-MIS PACA Team will hand off the application and documentation needed for Jefferson County to maintain the PACA web portal.
