The University of Alabama’s Management Information Systems (MIS) program announced today that it is partnering with Code Rebel, LLC to create Apple iTouch, iPhone, and iPad applications. Each semester, the Alabama MIS Department works with companies such as Procter & Gamble and Alfa Insurance to give students an experience-backed education providing IT solutions to business problems. CodeRebel’s applications allow Alabama to maximize the efficiency of MIS undergraduate and Enterprise Integration graduate students working on providing mobile applications for Apple devices.
This partnership allows The University of Alabama to minimize development costs for an increasingly growing number of students in the MIS major. Code Rebel’s core product, iRAPP TS, provides remote terminal services for Mac OSX. This software allows multiple students to develop applications for the iTouch, iPhone, and iPad devices on a single physical Mac, instead of having to purchase individual computers. “Code Rebel’s solution saved our 5-student development team roughly $10,000 in initial hardware and setup costs.” – Jarrod Stanley, Project Manager, Alfa2Go – Spring 2010
In Spring 2010, Alabama students working for Alfa Insurance used Code Rebel’s iRAPP TS product to bring Alfa’s brand to the device. All of Alfa’s policy holders (and others) with iPhones/iPods/iPads now have the ability to use features developed by the Alabama team using iRAPP and Apple’s Development Envrionment, XCode. “When I was on the Alfa project last Spring, iRAPP TS really came through as the #1 solution to our problem. We quickly found out that you can only develop applications for iPhone/iPod/iPad on a Mac running OSX and it was going to be overwhelmingly expensive to purchase individual Macs for our team. iRAPP TS allowed us to use a single Mac Mini Server and our existing Windows workstations to do all of our development and testing for the project. It was an overall great experience and we are so pleased with the product that we have decided to use it for our P&G project this semester.” – Jonathan Burns, Project Manager, P&G iNSight – Fall 2010.All students in their senior year Capstone Experience and Enterprise Consulting Graduate students will be using Code Rebel’s iRAPP TS for development and training for Apple based solutions.
