As my internship with Protective Life this summer was coming to an end, I was very excited about getting started with my first semester of the Capstone Experience. On the first day of the semester, I was assigned to the Alfa Farm Rater Team. The agenda for the first couple of weeks involved preparing the Alfa Team for our kick-off meeting with the stakeholders at Alfa Insurance located in Montgomery, Alabama. The objective of the team was to define the goals of the interviews, develop questions based on the high level requirements, and decide the key people we needed to interview. After the interview plan was complete, we were all set for our two hour journey to Montgomery.
The project came into better focus when we visited Alfa and discussed the project in more depth with Alfa representatives. For example, when we met with the representative who designed the current farm rating system, it provided us with an improved knowledge of recognizing the problem areas of the system. With a better understanding of the current business process, I was inspired with ideas on how to create the new solution. Meeting with the business and technology teams at Alfa provided our team with real-world experience on the functional aspects of working in the MIS profession.
The overall process of planning for our Kick–off meeting and conducting the interviews was truly a wonderful experience. Everyone at Alfa was extremely nice and made sure our team had all the resources we needed for the project. I had the opportunity to get to know my Capstone team members better and I look forward to working with them for the remainder of the semester.
