MIS Ambassadors Host Open House

In an effort to maintain our high recruitment rate, MIS faculty and ambassadors hosted an Open House this week to showcase the MIS program to prospective students.

As students arrived to the AIME Building, they were greeted by waiting Ambassadors to welcome them to the Open House. The students were treated to pizza and drinks while more students continued to arrive. This gave the ambassadors and faculty the opportunity to meet the prospective students. While getting to know the students, the ambassadors and faculty were able to answer any immediate questions students had about the major before the Open House presentation.

At the beginning of the Open House presentation, each ambassador introduced themself, telling the students where they currently are in the program, where they plan to intern this summer, and their favorite aspect of MIS. Then, Dr. Joanne Hale gave an introduction to the MIS promotional video, created by MIS students and faculty. The video spoke about the benefits and opportunities available to MIS majors now and as they start their careers. After the video, Dr. David Hale elaborated on what it is exactly that MIS majors do in the real world. He used examples from many different industries to demonstrate the solutions delivered by MIS professionals.

Ambassadors then divided the group of prospective students into several groups of 2-3 to take a tour through the Capstone Projects. Each group was able to hear from three or more teams about the projects that they are currently working on this Spring. This way, the students were able to get a glimpse of what kind of work MIS students do and hear firsthand how majoring in MIS has benefited them. At the conclusion of the tour, ambassadors and faculty continued to talk to students as long as they remained. A number of students were interested in the major and finding out more about the sequence of MIS courses. Overall, the Open House was a success!
